Remember when using aromatherapy was thought of as a little bit woo-woo or out there? Thank goodness those days are over and aromatherapy is now mainstream. Using essential oils to help balance your horse's emotional well-being is now available in an easy-to-apply, roll-on manner.
Our three essential oil blends build upon this cornerstone for equine emotional well-being. First is RELAX, which obviously relaxes and calms horses. This allows them to then FOCUS and be involved in the activity at hand. And, of course, AGE WELL supports them in their final years and as they prepare to cross over.
The best way for your horse to achieve these benefits is through a combination of breathing in the oils and by the oils also being absorbed through the skin. This is done by rolling the oils onto your horse so the oils can be absorbed and smelled.
ROLLON: For maximum benefits, apply generously, rolling on in a circular motion, inside your horse's ears or throat/neck. Alternate application: roll onto your hands and pet your horse.
SPRAY: Spray over horse from ears back (not in face), spray trailer, stall, etc., spray hands and pet horses neck. Neck is a good area to spray, once again, not tin face or eyes.
Your horse may be one of the rock solid treasures the rest of us dream about. Newspapers blow in front of him and he doesn't flick an ear. Cars drive by and backfire and he barely notices. But let an umbrella be opened in his presence and your normally unflappable horse is a rearing, blowing, twirling hot mess.
Just as we have triggers that send us into panic attacks, like public speaking, snakes, heights, spiders or clowns (red-noses creepy monsters), so can our horses. There may be no rhyme or reason to what triggers panic for man or horse, the best we can do it deal with it in a safe, loving way.
Is your horse a wound-tight, energy galore, attention deficit horse - running the fence line, twirling and jumping from one thing to the next. Can you literally FEEL his attention flit from one bright shiny object to the next? This high energy horse can be fun to live with when you want a fast, exhilarating ride, but a handful when you are at training class, are on a leisurely trail ride or venturing into the show ring.
The horse at the opposite end of the attention spectrum can also use some FOCUS. You know the type, you call their name and they barely twitch an ear, let alone turn their head to acknowledge you called them.
One day you notice your horse's step isn't as confident as it once was. The formerly sure-footed fearless horse is now a bit unsure, hesitant. She may grow tired more quickly and is not so keen on the full day rides anymore. Then as you are stroking her soft muzzle the realization hits you - her face is grey now!
Many horses, just like people, begin to show forgetfulness or a lack awareness of their surroundings as they age. Some may become frightened or disoriented for no discernible reason. AGE WELL supports and assists your senior horse as they progress through the stages of aging into their final transition.
